Starfire Technical Systems |
These lists prepared by David Ternes
Version 1.0, 29 June 2000
The technical systems for Alkelda Dawn are confused and confusing. The Starfire Design Studio has never made a complete, final, and commonly accepted presentation of all of the Alkelda Dawn technical systems and their Tech Levels for the 3rd Edition Revised rules. What this means is that there is no solid agreement on how Alkelda Dawn technical systems fit into the Tech Levels of the standard (or Alliance) technical systems. Because of this, there are at least three different listings of the Tech Levels for Alkelda Dawn technical systems.
The following tables list these different interpretations of the Alkelda Dawn Tech Levels. [J'Rill systems, other than Presser Missiles, are not included in these tables, as they do not change in Tech Level, and are listed on the Technical Systems Cross Reference.]
Alkelda Dawn Convergence. Some people have asked about the "Convergence" term. Alkelda Dawn Convergence is the name for the modifications to Alkelda Dawn Tech Levels and some system capabilities to bring Alkelda Dawn systems more in line for use with the mainstream (Alliance) technologies. This was officially introduced into the rules in Sky Marshal #2, and generally involves an increase in the Tech Level of Alkelda Dawn systems.
Weapons Range And Damage Tables. Be sure to remember that the Weapons Range And Damage Tables for Alkelda Dawn weaponry have different entries in the different rules and supplements. The damage capability and range of kinetic weapons have been steadily reduced. Therefore, when using Alkelda Dawn weapons, you should use the Weapons Range And Damage Table from the text whose Tech Level sequence you use. The Weapons Range And Damage Tables may be found at:
A personal note. The Alkelda Dawn Convergence is simply not well established, and based on personal experiance I would strongly recommend against combining Alkelda Dawn technologies in a standard / Alliance technologies game under the Starfire 3rd Edition Revised and Imperial Starfire rules. Play Alkalda Dawn technology, or play standard technology, but don't combine the two. Hopefully 4th Edition will merge the two in a better manner.
