The game was played on 22 April 2000.
Turn 1
Initiative: Warlord
The Klakonian ships moved forward slowly. The Warlord forces raced forward as a group, except for the trailing corvette, which did not move. The Klakonians had intended to remain out of Standard Missile range, but a minor miscalculation resulted in the fleet all being within maximum Standard Missile range of the lead Warlord units.
The Warlord Group C fired Standard Missiles at Striker (CT). Only 1 hit was obtained thanks to the long range and good point defense shooting. Groups B and D engaged the Fearless (CL), the lead Klakonian ship. Two missiles took down the shields and scared the armor.
Only the Klakonian heavy cruisers were in range. 1st Division fired on F9 (DD), only to discover that it was equipped with a massive point defense battery. The 2nd Division fired their missiles at F8 (DD), finding that its point defense battery was smaller, allowing two missiles to get through.
Turn 2
Initiative: Warlord
The Warlord forces again advanced at full speed straight ahead, except for CT1. The Klakonian heavy cruisers advanced slowly, ending just inside of the maximum optimum Standard Missile range to the lead Warlord ships. The light cruisers turned to starboard and closed on a diagonal, to unmask their broadside kinetic projectors. The kinetic equipped destroyers followed the light cruisers' lead. The remainder of the fleet moved forward as quickly as possible trying to get their weapons into range.
Most of the Warlord units engaged the corvettes of the 1st Division of the 84th Patrol Squadron. Volleying their external missiles, each of Groups A, B, C, and D struck at up to three of the corvettes at a time. Striker and Sabre were seriously damaged, while Stalker received modest damage. Groups E (no external missiles fired) and F shot at Basilisk, which sustained notable damage to its engines, slowing significantly.
Much of the Klakonian's armament was still out of effective range, thus greatly reducing their ability to hurt the Warlord ships. The heavy cruisers fired on the lead light cruiser, CL4, finding that it was poorly equipped with point defenses. Heavy damage was done in a short time. The light cruisers and kinetic destroyers fired on F9 (DD) (which had been shown to be so resistant to missiles) with their kinetic projectors. F9 was found to be totally lacking in defenses against kinetic weaponry.
Turn 3
Initiative: Warlord
The Warlord force halted all movement. The Klakonian heavy cruisers advanced into optimum Standard Missile range of the Warlord force. The light forces on the left and the destroyers on the right advanced as quickly as possible, attempting to envelope the Warlord force. The light cruisers continued to close.
Again, the primary targets of the Warlord force were the light units. Groups A and B destroyed the Stalker (CT) and the Sabre (CT). Group E, finally firing its external missiles, inflicted serious damage on the Vampire (ES), which was finished by Group F. Group C shot at the Gorgon (DD) eliminating its passive defenses and taking it out of its datalink. Group D engaged the Medusa (DD), doing minor damage.
The Klakonian small corvettes and escorts concentrated their fire on F8 (DD), causing only very minor damage. The light cruisers and destroyers, now closing on the enemy's left flank, did serious damage to CL2 and F2 (DD). A single hit was also scored on F5 (DD) by Basilisk (DD) at long range with its remaining kinetic projector. Missiles from the heavy cruisers smashed CL4, eliminating all systems except a single engine, which promptly ceased to operate.
Turn 4
Initiative: Klakonian
The Warlord force accelerated. The main force split into two groups, each turning outward in an effort to prevent the Klakonian forces from getting into their blind spots. The corvette (CT1) suddenly began to move. The remaining Klakonian light units, many seriously slowed, moved into the gap between the Warlord forces. Scout (CT) completely circled the enemy, turning 180° to come at them from behind. The heavy cruisers advanced slowly, with the divisions moving apart to mirror the enemy's direction changes. More importantly, the light cruisers and most of the destroyers closed to point blank range.
The Klakonian light cruisers led the firing by concentrating on CL1. When their six lasers and six improved kinetic projectors were done firing at a range of 1/4 light second, CL1 split into numerous segments without replying. Most of the light forces concentrated on F9 (DD), and destroyed it. The heavy cruisers targeted CL3, with each group achieving an identical and incredible thirteen hits out of fourteen missiles fired.
Warlord ships smashed back at the light Klakonian ships. Striker (CT) and Savage (CT) were eliminated, along with Vampire (ES). Gallant (ES) received massive damage, and all systems except its Laser were knocked out of action. On the other side of the fight, Groups A and B inflicted minor damage on Gorgon (DD), Medusa (DD), and Fearless (CL).
Turn 5
Initiative: Warlord
The Warlord forces slowly continued their outward turn, although many groups were hampered by remaining with heavily damaged ships. The Klakonian light cruisers and destroyers slowed and turned tightly to keep the left flank of the enemy at close range. The heavy cruisers advanced very slowly, as they wanted to stay in the upper half of the optimum range for Standard Missiles.
The targeting for Warlord Groups C and D was very limited, as most of the Klakonian ships were now behind them. Group C was able to see, and destroy Scimitar (CT), while Group D fired its missiles at Glory (CA), with four actually hitting the big ship. Groups E and F damaged Valorous (ES), slowing its pursuit of the other part of their force. Finally Groups A and B did minor damage to Broad Sword (DD), and finally got through the relatively thin armor of Fearless (CL).
Klakonian targeting now seemed to go down the tubes. Over half of all shots missed (most with high odds to hit). Despite this, the light cruisers and destroyers finished off F2 (DD), added modest damage to CL2 and lightly damaged a few other ships. The heavy cruisers completed the destruction of CL2, and added damage to CL3.
Turn 6
Initiative: Klakonian
At the start of Turn 6 the Warlord forces conceded defeat. With all but one of their datalinks broken, all of their light cruisers destroyed or out of action, and the nine Klakonian cruisers effectively undamaged, the Warlord player did not feel there was any chance for a victory. It was also noted that the Klakonian fleet now had a 3:2 superiority in remaining hull spaces (even allowing for the heavy damage on some Klakonian ships). At this point the Klakonians also had an obvious superiority at close range with their large number of lasers and kinetic projectors, against the Warlord ships, many of whose main remaining weapons were missiles. The Warlord player was also aware that the Klakonians had figured out that the Warlord ships had their weaponry placed ahead of their engines, and thus could be knocked out of action fairly easily. Finally, the entire left flank of the Warlord force was completely surrounded by Klakonian ships at very close range and was likely to be nearly wiped out in turn 6.
The Klakonian player accepted the victory, since to him the battle was far from over and victory was in no way certain.
