The Heap
Overview
Burnbarrel Blvd. is the stench elemental zone of Hobopolis. It should be the third side-area completed, after Burnbarrel Blvd. and Exposure Esplanade.
Stench Level. The area starts with a stench level of 4 and has a maximum level of 10. To activate the I Refuse! adventure, the level must be 8 or more. The level is increased by setting off a trashcano (the Kick the stuff into the hole option of the You vs. The Volcano), or sending trash to The Heap (the Wait for him to leave option in the The Furtivity of My City adventure in The Purple Light District). As The Purple Light District is normally done after The Heap, the second possibility is not likely to occur. Note that the higher the stench level, the more stench damage done by stench hobos in combat.
Maximizing non-combat adventures is a good strategy in this side-area.
Significant Non-Combat Adventures
The Compostal Service
This adventure does nothing for the adventurer. It is best skipped.
- Be Green. The will lower the stench level. While this will make combats in the area easier, it will make it harder to get the I Refuse adventure. If not on a speed run, select this option after everyone in the party is done with the I Refuse! adventure.
- Begone. This is the preferred option. It does not use an adventure.
I Refuse!
Accessing this adventure is the reason for not lowering the stench level with the Be Green option in The Compostal Service adventure. It will only occur if the stench level of The Heap is 8 or more.
- Explore the junkpile. This option gives the adventurer three items. It is possible to receive items which have otherwise been discontinued from the game.
- Climb back out. This option does not use an adventure. Select it only if on a speed run.
The first adventurer to get this adventure should inform the rest of the adventuring party, and do nothing. Each additional character to get the adventure should also refrain from selecting either option until everyone who wants the adventure has it. Then, all the characters should select the Explore the junkpile option.
The stench level is reset to 0 when someone explores the junkpile. The only easy way for more than one person to explore the junkpile is for everyone interested to complete the adventure at the same time.
You vs. The Volcano
This adventure allows the adventuring party to increase the stench level of The Heap.
- Kick the stuff into the hole. This option kills a few stench hobos and, more importantly, increases the stench level of The Heap by one. Always select this option before the I Refuse! adventure occurs.
- On second thought, that's probably a horrible idea. This option may be selected after the I Refuse! adventure occurs. This option does not expend an adventure.
The Boss - Oscus
Special Ability
The strength of Oscus's stench attacks increase very rapidly.
Boss Common Abilities
Damage Cap. Any attack which causes more than 500 damage will have the damage over 500 reduced. In effect, doing more than about 550 damage in any one attack is wasted effort.
Elemental Damage. The Boss's presence causes a base damage of 40 to 60 points of the related elemental damage. This may be reduced by the appropriate elemental resistance.
Stun Resistance. Like all the bosses, Oscus cannot be Stunned (i.e., suffer from any effect which would stop him from acting over multiple rounds).
Fighting
Overall Oscus is probably the easiest of the bosses to defeat. The best strategy to defeat him is to have a high stench resistance and do as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible.
