Form Components. There are four types of lines on the form. These are described in detail below.
Unit Name
Commanding Officer Information
Data Columns:
| CO | - | (Command Officer) In the box to the right of the "CO", enter the rank and name of the commanding officer of the unit. |
|---|---|---|
| S | - |
(Seniority) This column may be used in either of two ways.
1) Put a mark next to the senior-most brigade commander. This will indicate who will assume command of the division should the division commander fall. 2) Number the brigade commanders in terms of seniority (1 being highest). |
| Morale | - |
This is used to record the officer's Morale benefit if the Splitting Officer Attributes rule is used.
- For brigade commanders there are two boxes. The left is for the original brigade commander. The right may be used to record the benefit for a replacement brigade commander. - The division commanding officer does not have a second box since he is replaced by the senior brigade commander. - If the Splitting Officer Attributes rule is not used, leave the column(s) blank. |
| Fire/Quality | - |
This is used to record the officer's Fire benefit (if the Splitting Officer Attributes rule is used), or Quality benefit (if the rule is not used).
- For brigade commanders there are two boxes. The left is for the original brigade commander. The right may be used to record the benefit for a replacement brigade commander. - The division commanding officer does not have a second box since he is replaced by the senior brigade commander. |
| Integrity | - |
This column (which does not have a label for this line) is used to record the officer's value if the Command Value rule is used. Normally this will be "5" for a division commander, and "3" for a brigade commander.
- If this rule is not used, leave this column blank. |
| Experience | - |
This is used to record the officer's rating if the Command Limits rule is used. Normally this will be "Superior", "Average", or "Poor".
- The division commanding officer does not have a second box since he is replaced by the senior brigade commander. - If this rule is not used, leave this column blank. |
| Integrity | - |
(Second occurrence of an Integrity.) This is used to record the unit's total Integrity Level values if the Command Value rule is used. The column has places for three pieces of data (i.e., ## / ## / ##).
- The first entry is the total Integrity value for the unit. For a brigade this will be sum of the Integrity Levels for each unit and the brigade commander (listed in the previous Integrity column). For a division, this will be the sum of the Integrity Levels for each brigade plus that of the division commander and any supply column. - The second entry is 60% of the first entry (i.e., first entry times 0.6). Round to one decimal place. This will be the value at which the unit will no longer be able to advance against the enemy. - The third entry is 40% of the first entry (i.e., first entry times 0.4). Round to one decimal place. This will be the value at which the unit will be required to withdraw from the field. - If this rule is not used, leave these entries blank. |
Regiment / Battery Information
Data Columns:
| Unit Identifier | - | (No column heading.) The first data column is for the name or identifier of the unit. |
|---|---|---|
| Morale | - |
This is used to record the unit's Morale level if the Splitting Morale and Troop Quality rule is used. Normally this will be either "High", "Good", "Poor", or "Bad".
- If this rule is not used, leave the column blank. |
| Figs | - | (Figures) Enter the total number of figures on all of the unit's stands. |
| Fire/Quality | - | This is used to record the unit's Fire level (if the Splitting Morale and Troop Quality rule is used), or BMP level (if the rule is not used). Normally this will be either "Elite", "Average", "Green", or "Militia". |
| Integrity | - |
This unlabeled column is used to record the unit's value if the Command Value rule is used.
- If this rule is not used, leave this column blank. |
| Weapons | - |
Enter the type of weapons the unit has. This should always be entered for artillery batteries. Infantry and cavalry units may or may not have an entry, depending on the level of detail desired.
- Detailed information may include (using an infantry weapon as the example) the specific type of weapon, whether or not it is equipped with a bayonet, and its quality (assume Good quality unless "Poor" is entered). For example: M1861 Springfield Rifle Musket, .58 cal., bayonet. |
| Model Unit Used / Note | - | In many of the author's battles a unit included in the Order of Battle may be represented by a model unit which has another name (ex. in the original Jackson's Valley Campaign, the 8th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was represented by a player's unit designated as the 149th Pennsylvania Infantry). That may be shown in this column, or this may be used for notes and comments. |
| 1st F | - | (First Fire) Use this column during play to indicate when a unit has used its First Fire. |
| Loss | - | This column is used in campaign play to record the loss of the unit in a battle. |
Supply Information
Data Columns:
| Supply | - | Indicate the total number of supply points available in this Supply Column. Normally this will be "3" for Union divisions, and "2" for Confederate divisions. |
|---|---|---|
| Morale | - |
This is used to record the unit's Morale level if the Splitting Morale and Troop Quality rule is used. Normally this will be "Bad".
- If this rule is not used, leave the column blank. |
| Figs | - | (Figures) This will normally be "1". |
| Quality | - | This is used to record the unit's Fire level (if the Splitting Morale and Troop Quality rule is used), or BMP level (if the rule is not used). Normally this will be "Militia". |
| Integrity | - |
This unlabeled column is used to record the unit's value if the Command Value rule is used. Normally this would be "1" for a Supply Column.
- If this rule is not used, leave this column blank. - This entry is repeated in the box above the line to the right of Supply Points. |
| Supply Points | - |
List the type of ammunition carried for each Supply Point. This may be a single type of ammunition (ex. .58 cal. Rifle Musket or 12 lb. Napoleon), or, if for a specific artillery battery, it may be the name of the unit or the combination of its guns (ex. 1-12 lb. Napoleon & 1-3" Ord. Rifle).
- Cross out a Supply Point description when it has been expended. |
| 1st F | - | (First Fire) Use this column during play to indicate when the unit has used its First Fire. |
| Loss | - | This column is used in campaign play to record the losses of the unit. |
This is a Troop Listing Form used in the original Jackson's Valley Campaign. It is shown as it would have been prior to use in a game. [The "*" after a unit's weapons indicates that it is historically correct information. A "+" after an officer's name indicates that the historical name was not available and the name entered is fictitious.]
