Dark Tower Campaign

Background
Gaetano was born in 1175 AD to a freeman day laborer in the city of Naples. He was the first born of fraternal twins. His early childhood was spent normally in Naples. At the age of seven (1182 AD), he and his brother Amilcare were both taken as apprentices of Aurilius Dragonstaff of House Verditius at the Covenant of Verdi near Naples.
Overall his apprenticeship was unremarkable except for the problems of his brother. Amilcare's Gift was not adequate for Hermetic magic and resulted in a serious accident in the laboratory in 1186 AD. Amilcare was badly injured. As a result, Aurilius would no longer teach Amilcare. Although only eleven, Gaetano convinced Aurilius to allow Amilcare to remain in the covenant.
With the completion of Gaetano's training as a magus, he decided to leave Verdi to follow a dream he experienced. There was no question but that Amilcare would go with him. Therefore in the Spring of 1197 AD, joined by a cousin and two friends, they set off to Venice to follow Gaetano's dream.
Description
Physically Gaetano is unremarkable. He is of average size and build with no notable features. He normally wears the rough clothes of a common working person. He sometimes wears a dark robe not unlike that of a monk (but he never presents himself as a monk). Although not obviously possessing a magical nature, Gaetano is not normally well received in society. He is unconcerned with his general appearance, tending to dress rather shabbily. He is well known for his constant mumbling. It is almost impossible to understand this mumbling. While Latin is the usual language, Italian, French, and some Arabic words will be inserted, sometimes seemingly at random.
Gaetano is quite capable of working with others and even getting groups to do what he wants, however, he is not really a "people person". Other than his family and personal companions, he sees most people as either supporting his work in a laboratory or hindering that work. When it comes to people whom he sees as hindrances, Gaetano has no problems about exploiting them or in some way coercing them to help him as necessary.
Gaetano has a few skills outside of magic and his laboratory work. Most of the skills revolve around making objects which may be enchanted. He has spent a small amount of time learning to use a quarterstaff and to fight, although he has no illusions about the results of a physical encounter with most fighters.
