Aleardo Belmondo
Grog and cousin of Gaetano Magni

Background

Aleardo Belmondo is a cousin of Gaetano Magni of House Verditius. He was born in 1177 AD as the third son of a blacksmith in the city of Naples. His apprenticeship to his father began at an early age. Unlike his brothers, Aleardo was a quick study and not only learned the basic arts of the blacksmith, but he also worked for armorers, weaponsmiths, goldsmiths, and silversmiths who were professional friends of his father.

The only real problem in Aleardo's life was the boredom. He completed his apprenticeship by the age of twenty 1197 AD). Each day was the same as the last. Further, being a third son, he could never hope to inherit his father's smithy. Thus he would probably spend his days working for either his father or one of his less capable older brothers.

Aleardo was one of the few people outside of their covenant with whom Gaetano and his brother Amilcare Magni associated. Aleardo often created small items to help Gaetano in his work. When Gaetano informed Aleardo that he and Amilcare were leaving for Venice to follow Gaetano's dream, Alerdo decided to go with them.

Description

Aleardo is a large person, with obvious great upper body strength. He is constantly smiling and laughing heartily. People find him quite pleasant to be around. Also, he is a storyteller. People regularly gather around the smithy while he works. They exchange gossip and tell stories and tales.

As a smith, Aleardo is a jack-of-all-trades. He is able to smelt iron, work iron, gold, and silver. He is also able to make armor and weapons.

To seal their relationship, Gaetano made the Ring of the Smith as part of his apprentice's gauntlet. The Ring was given to Aleardo to help him as a smith while on their journey. In return, Aleardo promised to faithfully support Gaetano and to establish himself as a smith wherever Gaetano eventually took up residence.
