Ars Magica Mystic Halls Campaign
Stonehenge Tribunal

Divider

Unlike the descriptions in some of the source materials, the Stonehenge Tribunal is not primarily a House Ex Miscellanea tribunal. Rather, the tribunal is a cross section of the Order of Hermes. The tribunal is not politically active within the Order, and disinterest in tribunal politics generally characterizes the tribunal's meetings, thus allowing the Covenant of Blackthorn to often dominate the Tribunal.

The number of magi (45) specified for the tribunal in The Order of Hermes source book is not considered to be binding. There may be more magi at any covenant and in the tribunal (within reason) than are listed in that source.

There are also numerous magi within the tribunal, notably of House Ex Miscellanea, who claim no individual covenant as home. These magi typically live solitary lives, remaining apart from the Order of Hermes and often from other people in general.

Edenholm

The Covenant of Edenholm is covered separately.

Spiretop

The Covenant of Spiretop is no longer a functioning covenant. It was located in central Wales in the eastern Cambrian Mountains, near the town Shrewsbury on the River Severn.

The covenant had been in decline for decades, at least partly due to its high aura (Magic 6). Few apprentices were produced, and those that were trained left immediately. [Additional information on Spiretop has been requested from the players who defined the covenant. More may be added later.]

Argonnias Beleigrious of House Tremere and Horus of House Flambeau were trained at Spiretop. Mary of House Flambeau, a magus from Spiretop was also active in the campaign for a short period, before getting herself killed.

Blackthorn

The Covenant of Blackthorn has been the major headache in the tribunal, and for the Covenant of the Mystic Halls, for many, many decades. The covenant is located in central southern Wales. It is highly secretive. The exact number of member magi or covenfolk is not known, and the details of the covenant itself are known only to the members.

Blackthorn is the prime political force within the Stonehenge Tribunal. This is as much from the lack of general political interest on the part of other magi as from the ambition of the magi of Blackthorn. This has changed somewhat over the past two decades as more and more magi in the tribunal become dissatisfied with the interference of Blackthorn in their personal affairs, but Blackthorn is in no immediate danger of losing its grip on the tribunal.

The Covenant of Blackthorn takes an interest in almost all activities of all magi in the entire tribunal. This often extends into making claims of possession over all things mundane and magical within the tribunal. On a number of occasions, magi from the Covenant of the Mystic Halls have been confronted by magi from the Covenant of Blackthorn with demands to turn over newly discovered magical items on the grounds that "this is Blackthorn's territory". Such claims have been made in northern England, and even in southern Scotland. To date, the Mystic Halls magi have, fortunately, defeated or outwitted the Blackthorn magi at each encounter.

Cad Gadu

The Covenant of Cad Gadu is a major covenant of House Ex Miscellanea. The Primus of that House resides at this covenant, making it the Domus Magnus of House Ex Miscellanea. The covenant is located in central northern Wales and is relatively large, with eight to ten magi in residence [the exact number has never been set]. Some additional information for the covenant is described in The Order of Hermes source book.

Magi from this covenant have been involved in a number of adventures in the campaign. In at least two cases, the magi turned out to be diabolists (and were dealt with accordingly, on the spot). This has left strong suspicions at the Covenant of the Mystic Halls regarding what exactly occurs at Cad Gadu. The suspicions were somewhat allayed by Athlon of the Blackstaff, a magus from the Covenant of Ebudae, who spent a number of months at Cad Gadu before coming to the Mystic Halls, and who saw no abnormal activities, or at least nothing of a diabolic nature.

Londinium

The Covenant of Londinium is located in the city of London. It is a very loosely organized covenant, with no central location. Rather, it is a collection of magi, each with their own houses and laboratories. The magi meet regularly to discuss "covenant" business.

Reuven Yosef ben Mordechi was trained at the Londinium Covenant under Rabbi Shalom Sharabi, a magus of House Verditius. Felix of House Quaesitoris was also trained at this covenant.

Oceanus Major

The Covenant of Oceanus Major is located on the Isle of Wight. It was used as the source for a plot hook in an early campaign adventure. No other details have been specified for this covenant.

Flamma Domis

The Covenant of Flamma Domis is located in eastern England at the edge of The Fens. It is a covenant of House Flambeau. Although small, the covenant is known for its fights with elements of the Order of Odin, which operates out of Scotland. The covenant is also moderately active in supporting some of the efforts of English forces against Scottish armies.

The covenant was created primarily to help explain why the Order of Odin is generally restricted to Scotland, and does not penetrate notably into England. No other details of the covenant have been specified.

Ellynaecot

The planned Covenant of Ellynaecot is covered separately.
