Black Tower
The Covenant of Black Tower was located at the western edge of the Cumbrian Mountains. This covenant no longer exists, although its tower still stands. The founders of the Covenant of the Mystic Halls came from Black Tower.
When the founders of Mystic Halls left Black Tower in 1040 they knew the covenant was in trouble. Local vis sources were depleted, the magi showed no interest in acquiring new apprentices, the local population was restive and sometimes even hostile, and new magi were leaving the covenant as soon as they finished their apprenticeships.
The magi of the Covenant of the Mystic Halls remained in contact with their former masters for many years after the founding of Mystic Halls. Around 1100, the correspondence began to lag notably. In 1138, a Redcap on an infrequent visit to the covenant, noted that it had apparently been abandoned.
Since that time the covenant has apparently stood abandoned and unused. In July of 1231 a party from Mystic Halls returned to the site of Black Tower while investigating a separate incident (see The Case of the Dragon in the North). At that time the old tower was still standing, although crumbling.
